A Christian has to realize and accept with a humble heart what Jesus has given to them. Every day should be lived in an attempt to repay Him for His sacrifice. Once the Christian realizes he/she will never be able to come close to repaying Him for such a grandiose sacrifice, they must accept his grace again. I feel like the only way I can look at myself in the mirror without wanting to break it is knowing I’m forgiven.

depends on who is doing the classifying – but i think it’s simply those who believe in and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ – a Christ follower

another variety of that question …. what does one do, even while calling him/herself a Christian, that causes people to doubt the validity of that proclamation? in answer to your question, i think one needs to be a Christ-follower & in being that, strive to shape their life after Him. so it comes down to daily life choices …. to be the hands, feet, & heart of Christ to others & to live a life that doesn’t make others wonder why they call themselves Christian. which to me means going out into the world to reach people & love/accept them – but not become so tolerable of the “world” that it becomes a part of our lives as well.

I always labelled a Christian as anyone attempting to follow Christ in the best way they know how. To say that an individual has to have certain knowledge or be at a certain “step” was never a requirement made my Jesus. I’m much more wary of attributing myself or a requirement to Jesus if it does not involve loving people.

I once asked this of a Bible professor. (Albeit, a bit more emotionally.)
His response was more of simplified, orthodox one. He said, “Do you believe in God (and want to follow him?), and do you believe Jesus was resurrected? Because that’s what everything stems on.”

Sorry i’m late but if it’s okay I’d like to tag along since I’m just catching up to my reading absolutely loved the last write up about art bringing us closer to God I am actually working on my a song right along these lines 🙂

now on to the good stuff–For me being a Christian is being a follower of Christ and in being a follower i mean like that old game follow the leader we used to play when we were kids, doing the best we can to be just like Him. Although we have not ever physically met Jesus, we have seen Him work in our lives and we teach others about Him best by showing others who Christ is through our actions, telling them what he has done for us and that these things and more can be possible for them too. We often speak about, Love and forgiveness as christians, but how many of us can continue to love someone through the toughest situations and forgive those who have wronged us ? Let’s take it a step further would you HELP those who have wronged you?! This is what Jesus did, he looks past transgressions and is continuously there with loving arms open no mater how many times we/others have hurt Him. We are not perfect, but we are deffinately better than we used to be and trying to get better everyday. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying allow peeps to take advantage of your kindness in a negative way, cause i have learned that you can help people from a distance and sometimes all people need is prayer and as we all know prayer does work. 🙂

Another thing that makes me a Christian is my genuine desire to teach those who do not know about Him about His message of love and to be there for those that are confused and unsure, for the unbelievers we are compassionate and genuinely pray for them hoping one day they will find thier way and when they are ready we are there to help them every step of the way.

In one of my favorite verses the Bible Jesus teaches us, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”in Mathew 5;14-16

Remember that song “this little light of mine” we all learned in Sunday school? That’s it!! that’s my final answer. We are the the little lights that show people how to get to Jesus, who He is, what he has done and what is yet to come. We are the Disciples of today.

have a great day Rustin, and keep up the great writing!!!!
