All Else Can Drift

I am about to dive head first into a book that I was suggested by my good friend Allen Weathers. If this opening quote sets the tone, you could guess that I’m stoked about reading the rest.

THERE IS A DEEPER PORTION OF OUR BEING THAT WE RARELY ALLOW OTHERS TO SEE. CALL IT A SOUL MAYBE; THIS IS THE PLACE THAT HOLDS THE MOST VALUE. ALL ELSE CAN DRIFT BUT THIS. WHEN THIS DIES OUR BODY HAS NO MEANING. WE HANDLE THIS PORTION OF OUR BEING WITH EXTREME CARE. LIFE TEARS AT US AND SCARS US AS CHILDREN, SO WE ADOPT FACADES AND MASKS TO HIDE THIS PART OF US, TO KEEP THIS SACRED PART OF OURSELVES FROM THE PAIN. AND YET, WE LONG TO COMMUNICATE THIS DEEPER PLACE … TO CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER ON THIS SPIRITUAL LEVEL, FOR WE KNOW THAT THIS IS THE ONLY PART OF US THAT WILL LAST.

I absolutely love, “All else can drift but this.”.

Everything around us in our lives becomes flexible, moving to the rhythm of culture but our soul must stay solid. It must remain tied to the anchor. Evan when the anchor is holding steady on the sea floor, the boat on the surface has slack to move, to fluctuate, on the surface of the water. There will be times when the storms rage and all seems lost, but our soul will not drift.

After watching a disturbing video of a pastor telling his congregation “Some of you, God hates you.”, I’m reminded more than ever that God loves me. Funny that it takes a condescending preacher to drive home the fact that God Loves Me.

Today, may you focus on what matters.

May you get rid of all of the crap standing between you and God.

May the Love of Jesus pour over you.

Don’t forget, God doesn’t hate you. He loves You despite every flaw, every mistake, every right choice, every perfectly worded prayer. Nothing you can or can’t do can change how much He loves you – you’re stuck. You were created to be loved. Enjoy it.

Grace and Peace
