LOVE ENDURES | Broken & Contemplating

Wishing violence upon someone or carrying out a violent act looks NOTHING like Christ – NOTHING.

We are called to be men and women who stand up for the oppressed.

We are urged to be a people unified in their love for those who don’t look like us, think like us, vote like us or believe like us.

The Jesus I read of in the ancient texts is one who would mourn with those families of loved ones lost through all of the violent acts we’ve seen so publicly in the last week. He would be in Dallas, and Baton Rouge, and Falcon Heights.

I believe His heart is broken because we would rather argue about who is right and live in denial of oppression than really look at the system and walk with those suffering in hopes that we could bring more hope, grace, and peace through sacrificial love.

Are You Choosing To Fall?

It’s a simple question that can range across the board: How Much? When this question popped into my mind in the early morning hours it wasn’t about money, or time, or anything with a risk attached to it.  I asked myself, “How much?” because I am pondering how much I love Christ.  How much I…

Another Reminder

I wanted to simply offer a snippet filled with Hope.  In light of processing all of God’s creation, I am in awe of Him. His very nature. His Love.  His Grace. His majestic artistry. All of this processing and meditating has me wondering a few things about God.  It has me pondering big questions that…

Like Pinocchio… Sort of.

Like my man Pinocchio, I grow when I talk with people.  Do understand that it’s not my nose growing from telling a lie, it’s my spirit growing from the depth of the conversation.  We need spiritual conversations that force us to search.  Searching moves us towards God. I’m reminded tonight of how my walk with…

Life Lessons

Tonight I was taught a valuable lesson about forgiveness.  It was an act of pure genuine love.  To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve ever meditated much on how Love creates a spirit of non-judgment. As usual, tonight my 4 year old son Kye was not wanting to go to bed. Our routine typically goes…

Us And Them

My son, Kye, turned 4 in May.  He has grown up so quickly.  It has been absolutely insane to watch him develop into this little person with quirks and humor.  Truly I cannot grasp how this all happens in just 4 years.  He has now been attending his Pre-K school for one week and HE…

segregation alive and well

i wonder if all of my friends are friends because we have things in common? over the last several months i’ve been involved with a sunday evening college/20 something’s group.  i’ve been traveling a lot as of late for photography so i haven’t been there as much as i would like, but i’ve committed myself…

a Love like this

i know a couple who recently got married.  in fact i had the pleasure of photographing their wedding day.  the day in itself was a blast because the people were absolutely stellar to be around.  they were the people who simply wanted to celebrate what the day was all about – Love.  sounds funny to…

without LOVE

i was inspired to think and reflect after i heard Peter Rollins speak recently.  thank you for the inspiration Mr. Rollins. let me ask you this:  when you are enjoying a meal with people you dearly love and people that dearly love you, are you thinking about the love in the room? no. you are…

WE ARE FREE

i was reminded by my good friend Allen Weathers that if Christ brings us freedom then we don’t need anything.  we were talking in the middle of the street around 1am and i saw him tug on his shirt and say, “we don’t need this!  we don’t need to dress a certain way.  it does…

Listen to the Leprechan

i knew that advertising had a certain influence in my life, but i’ve never seen it work so quickly as one saturday morning in April.  me, Kye (my 4 year old son) and Haygen Reese (my 2 year old daughter) were sprawled out on the living room floor taking in some quality morning cartoons when…
